Changing Your Diet to Prevent Osteoarthritis
It is the belief of many people that this form of arthritis is completely due to wear and tear and old age. Whereas wear and tear can be factor arthritis does not have to cripple you just because you are getting old. There are in fact some precautions you can practice today to help your joints to be healthier in the future.
Inflammation of the joints is a factor in most forms of arthritis. By making a few changes in your diet you can help your joints to stay in better condition and often avoid the problem of osteoarthritis.
Start in the early years
A diet that is anti inflammatory
(1) Your body needs around 8 glasses of fluid daily. This quota is not met by the average person. Because your body uses fluids to function well it is critical for your health that you try to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. When you do this you will minimize loss of synovial fluid in your joints. You will also flush impurities and toxins from your body. It will help to prevent inflammation.
(2) The body needs fruits and vegetables to supply vitamins and minerals that are critical to its proper functioning. Your bones and joints will be stronger and work better when you are in good health and have the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. This in turn will lesson your risk of arthritis.
(3) Red meat has been shown to be detrimental to our health. You can eat fish and chicken instead and still get adequate amounts of protein.
(4) Omega 3 has been shown to be exceptionally good for the joints. It can be obtained from fish, fish oil and organic omega3 eggs.
(5) Replace refined foods with whole grain foods. This is because when you eat refined foods much of the nutrition and natural fiber are lost. Some examples of whole grain foods are; brown rice, whole grain pasta and brown bread.
If you are overweight there is a lot of strain being put on your joints and you will increase the risk of arthritis as you get older. Therefore it is wise to keep your weight at normal levels and try not to become heavy. Here are a couple of points. · Change your eating habits and lose some extra pounds. · Try to eat a healthy diet by cutting down junk food and being careful when you buy fast food.
